Deer Isle Mirror

Motivation

I am constantly misplacing my wallet and keys; this stresses me out. This object is the first place I go after I get home. I put my most necessary belongings in their spots, secure in the knowledge of their whereabouts. I pluck a hair on my beard, wipe away a smudge of sunscreen, flip down an upright collar. Functionally, I wanted to create a mirror / shelf that would slot into, and benefit, my daily routine.

Brief / Design Considerations

  • Able to hold:

    • Keys

    • Phone

    • Wallet

    • Headphones / Ear buds

    • other EDC items

  • Small - the mirror is not for primping. It’s for a quick check in, and to hold the things I need.

  • Channel the serenity induced by coastal Maine.

Mood Board

Ideation / Iterations

Iterations are in order; not all are shown. The first three renders would be too challenging to produce, all future iterations sprang from 4th render.

The Final Prototype

4” x 10” x 10”.

PETG, Mirror.

A calming, sinuous wave form. A place for everything, and everything in its place. No wasted space, just an elegant solution.

Note* Final shelf would be identical in form, just cast in resin.
