The Arch Table

Ideation / Inspiration

This project is a melding of my magma lamps and my swamp table. Multifunctionality, comforting red hues, organic forms, surprising utilities.

Visual cues were taken from sandstone formations, as well as arroyos and bluffs.

Colors

Comforting, yet exciting tones. Vibrant but complimentary.

These progressed left to right (top to bottom on mobile).

  • Left: Without cross bracing, the legs are weak.

  • Middle: Although visually interesting, the waves are distracting, and would prove challenging to manufacture.

  • Right: One sinuous form, in line with the natural arches, and easiest to manufacture.

Initial CAD renders.

Toppers

The Arch Table transcends its classification with its toppers: A lamp, bookends, a vase, and a key bowl. Each object perfectly compliments the arch table, or can stand as an interesting and dynamic piece all its own.

How to connect the toppers

The top set of images shows the first solution: embedded magnets. While harder to construct, this sleek solution would keep the toppers aligned, while providing a smooth table top.

The bottom set of images show depressions where the toppers would sit. Easier to produce, with interesting divots providing another visual cue to the American Southwest.

Final Design

Molded Plastic.

39” x 24” x 16.5”.
