Sculpture
These are some of my recently completed sculptures, spanning across mediums. Clicking on a photo expands it.
A Stranger (2022) • Concrete, Plaster, Rebar, Pine, Acrylic Paint • 17” x 34” x 3.5” • Friends will come into my life and stay a while, and then move on. In their wake I register not their former presence, but their current absence. This piece is simply an homage of those people who were in my life whom I hold so dear.
Random Forest (2023) • Hydrocal, Steel, Stamped Oil Paint • 36” x 36” x 1” • From afar, the shapes seem perfectly square, and a coherent image is made. However, upon closer inspection, the differences between each tile and the forms created on the more micro scale and in the negative become apparent.
So Far I Still Know Who You Are (2023) • Hydrocal, Concrete, Steel • 6”x 16” x 8.5” • People live their lives moving in all different directions, seemingly passing each other without acknowledgement. But still, there at the end, humans remain connected by some invisible force. This piece hopes to illustrate that connection (there is a second silhouette connected to the one seen here). The title is from a line in The Smashing Pumpkins song Perfect.
Clash #1 (2023) • Pine, Acrylic Paint, Hydrocal • 5.5" x 5.5" x 52" • The top was created through an act of destruction, while great care was taken to construct the red legs and the hydro cal base. This piece is an attempt to constrain nature, and an attempt to make wild an exact process.
Clash #1 detail (top) • 5.5"x5.5"x7" • Pine, Acrylic Paint • This component was created by snapping pieces of pine, then gluing them together, and painting them, obscuring their destructive origin.
